Favourite Game - GTA V

I have never been much of a gamer. Years ago I played the classics like Simpson's Hit and Run and Sims, but I was never obsessed with one particular game. It wasn't until last year I played Grand Theft Auto 5 - commonly known as GTA V - for the first time and fell in love with it. At the beginning I would just drive cars around not knowing what I was doing but when I discovered the story mode I realised how much detail was involved in the game. The first thing I noticed when playing the game was the level of detail it had, and all I kept thinking to myself was how many people and how much man hours went into its creation. I feel like a lot of games are limited to certain play-styles: Call of Duty is just a war simulator, killing over and over again, which doesn't interest me. Need For Speed is fun, but just racing constantly. FIFA is probably the best example of this in that it is practically the same game repackaged every year. What I enjoy about GTA V is that the sandbox leaves the fun to you - it provides shooting aspects, driving challenges, sports, storyline, world exploration and practically every element any mainstream game can offer. I don't dislike gimmick games like Call of Duty or FIFA, but the diversity in playable characters, activities and decision making in GTA V is what keeps my interest from stagnating.

    Hi Leslie, Killian here, I really liked your introduction post, thought it was very interesting and fun, you seemed to have fun with it which is why it turned out so good. For this post i've decided to give you an insight into the person behind the blog!  Let's start off with the basics - My name is Leslie McCue and I just turned the ripe age of 22. I am now in my second year of college studying creative digital media. Game Idea Research

  Escape room game  After receiving feedback from my game ideas, I have decided to follow the path of my 'Escape the Mansion' concept. While I was told that my other three ideas had promise, I found feedback for Escape the Mansion to be the most positive.  Although I liked the concept of the shooting game, looking back  it did seem quite far fetched for my current level of skill this semester, and while both my Cloud Surfer and Getaway ideas weren't poor, they may have also been difficult to programme as they require a high level of skill for designing the aesthetic of the game worlds.  Delving into research for Escape the Mansion, I felt the most important aspect to make it a good game was a solid theme. I would like a fun, but pseudo-horror theme in both the map-design and aesthetic, very similar to the GameCube classic Luigi's Mansion. Prototype

  This week we had to make a prototype for our game. At the beginning of tackling this assignment I found it difficult as I wasn't sure how to begin or where to start. The first approach I took was to make a basic room from scratch using the skills I have learned from using the Unity tutorials, a few minutes into doing this however I realised how much more beneficial it would be to use Unity assets from the website.  I went online and searched for a medieval room asset which I could use as my template, after searching for an hour or so I found the one pictured above and found it fitted my theme perfectly. I downloaded these assets and placed them into my project. Of course I was not just going to use it as is, I removed some elements and added in pictures and chairs etc from other assets I have found.
